If needed - I can try writing parsing script to clean it up (similar to a way I parsed stories). Python and BeautifulSoup can go a loooong way.
Converting formatting into phpBB formatting can be pretty easy. After that - it should be drag and drop, more or less. But I am not sure how to preserve the poster names and so on.

Re: Possible import of some EAv2 threads
That is why I think having the testing / playground area is a good idea. It will give us a place to experiment with cleaning up the threads and verifying that we have something usable...

Re: Possible import of some EAv2 threads
When I looked into it last year, I couldn't find an official function to import into phpBB. Importing directly into the database is beyond my skills so I stopped right there.

Re: Possible import of some EAv2 threads
This is why I keep saying we need a 'playground' to experiment in... My thought as to a possible approach would be to look at whether we could do a script that would simply act to post messages (or threads) as a user... Effectively something like your story posting bot, only probably a bit more sophisticated...

Where do you want that section to be created on the forum? I can do it.WheelyFixed wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 2:17 pm This is why I keep saying we need a 'playground' to experiment in... Re: Possible import of some EAv2 threads
I'm thinking as a new area in 'General' - call it "EAv2 Recovered Threads" or something like that. I'm thinking as we get something that works, we would probably want to create sub-areas in it to replicate the EAv2 setup, but I don't know that we need to do that right away unless it is hard to do later. What other things would you need for it, like description and so forth? Presumably it can be pretty bare bones until we have figured out how to do any importing.fhunter wrote: Fri Feb 27, 2026 9:14 amWhere do you want that section to be created on the forum? WheelyFixed, can you check that you can see this forum: viewforum.php?f=173 and you can post there?
Also - give me a list of people who should see it?

I saw it, and have made a silly test post. It does say "Locked" but I was able to make a post anyway.fhunter wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2026 10:38 am WheelyFixed, can you check that you can see this forum: viewforum.php?f=173 and you can post there?

People that should see it -
Dandelion and possibly Evolve and the other mods. (not sure who is on the list for that at present, Evolve and Dandelion are the only ones I see) Neutrum260725
If we get any other volunteers that would be interested in tackling the project we can definitely add them as we go along.
