This is why I keep saying we need a 'playground' to experiment in... My thought as to a possible approach would be to look at whether we could do a script that would simply act to post messages (or threads) as a user... Effectively something like your story posting bot, only probably a bit more ...

If needed - I can try writing parsing script to clean it up (similar to a way I parsed stories). Python and BeautifulSoup can go a loooong way.

Converting formatting into phpBB formatting can be pretty easy. After that - it should be drag and drop, more or less. But I am not sure how to preserve ...

Sorry to burst your bubble. They do not work very hard to keep the community safe. I got unbanned after calling them pariahs. You can enter their chatroom without an account, making an account is... well, obviously easy, and the moderation team is... well, pretty lackluster, inferior, bad, poor ...
